Oprah Comes Out: As A Heterosexual
Posted by Abby Rose Dalto Categories: Talk Shows, Oprah Winfrey Show, Rumors,
Oprah Winfrey has big news: she is not gay. She made this statement in response to rumors that she and long time best friend, Gayle King, were more than friends.
“I understand why people think we’re gay. There isn’t a definition in our culture for this kind of bond between women,” Winfrey wrote, in the August issue of her magazine, O. King added, “if we were gay, we would tell you, because there’s nothing wrong with being gay.”
The two women have been friends for thirty years and are inseperable. When they are separated, they say they call each other four times a day. It also probably helps that the two were friends before Winfrey became rich and famous. King is, what sociologist Jan Yager - on The Early Show, Tuesday - calls a “nostalgia friend”. That is, she is someone who is tried and true; who has been there from the beginning.
It is not surprising that some people mistake their close bond for more than friendship and assume that the relationship is also sexual. “Our friendship is better than a marriage or sexual relationship,” said Winfrey, who has never been married. King is divorced.

Survivor Richard Hatch Appears Nude… Again
Posted by Abby Rose Dalto Categories: Survivor, Gossip,
Richard Hatch, the winner of the original Survivor, will appear nude in an upcoming film, Another Gay Movie. Hatch was famous on Survivor for often walking around undressed. Luckily for viewers, his “naked bits” were digitized out before broadcasting. However, the film shows a full frontal nude scene - in its entirety.
Apparently, the independent film received mixed reviews recently at a screening at the Outfest film festival, in L.A.
The film will be released to the public on July 28, but Hatch, 45, will be released to the public sometime later. He is currently finishing up a 51-month prison sentence for tax evasion - for failing to declare his $1 million Survivor prize among other income.

Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan Clash Again
Posted by Abby Rose Dalto Categories: Gossip, Rumors,
Paris Hilton just can’t get along with anyone! Her ongoing feud with former best friend and Simple Life co-star, Nicole Richie, is matched today by her ongoing feud with actress/singer Lindsay Lohan.
Hilton and Lohan clashed yet again at a Malibu party this Saturday, where Hilton allegedly laughed and made “nasty comments” about Lohan to her sister Nicky Hilton and other guests. This marks the most recent conflict in a long running rivalry between the two actresses.
Many attribute the bad blood between them to rumors of Lohan, 20, dating Hilton’s ex, Stavros Niarchos. However Hilton has recently insisted that those rumors were false and that Greek shipping heir, Niarchos would never date Lohan. “He thinks she’s pathetic”, claimed Hilton to Britain’s Style magazine.
Hilton, 25, says she is happy to be single and has no intention of looking for another boyfriend, although she also admits she can’t wait to have children… when the time is right. In the meantime, she plans to focus on her music and acting career.

CBS’ Marketing Plan: Over-easy or Scrambled?
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, CBS, News,
CBS announced that it will begin putting its eye logo and program logos on 35 million eggs this fall through a campaign called “egg-vertising.” Among the phrases that CBS plans to include on the eggs: “CSI: Crack the case on CBS,” “The Amazing Race: Scramble to Win on CBS,” and “Shark: Hard-Boiled Drama,” as well as “Shelling Out Laughs,” “Funny Side Up,” and “The Class: New Grade-A CBS Comedy.” Says George Schweitzer, president of the CBS marketing group, “We’ve gone through every possible sad takeoff on shelling and scrambling and frying. It’s a great way to reach people in an unexpected form.”
Um… yeah. I’m not sure how well egg messages are going to translate to viewership. Seeing a message from CBS as I crack open my breakfast isn’t eggs-actly (ugh, I know) going to motivate me to watch their programs. The eggs with the laser imprinted messages will hit grocery shelves in September and October.

Not too shabby, NBC – they managed to land Spike Lee to develop a new drama series. Discussion came shortly after Lee directed the pilot for the CBS drama Shark, starring James Woods. Lee is best known for his feature films, including “Do the Right Thing,” “Malcolm X,” and “Summer of Sam,” among others. It has not yet been confirmed if Lee will direct the new series, but he will develop and executive produce the project. His upcoming documentary, set to air on HBO in August, examines the government’s response to Hurricane Katrina. Titled When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts, this four-hour documentary will have its world premiere on August 16 at the New Orleans Arena.

Haven’t their 15 minutes expired already? Variety announced that Fox Reality is moving forward on their first docudrama series, titled The Rob and Amber Project. Apparently, viewers can’t get enough of these reality superstars—or at least that’s what Fox is hoping! Rob and Amber got their start on Survivor: All Stars and made it to the final two, where Rob popped the question on the season finale to Amber, the winner. They then moved on to The Amazing Race, where they proved to be tough competitors – then on to their own TV special about their wedding. The Rob and Amber Project will show their move to Las Vegas, where Rob hopes to become a professional poker player. Fox Reality has ordered 10 half-hours, with the premiere expected in January.

“24” News: The Palmer Legacy Lives On
Posted by Christina Furtado Categories: Drama, Prime Time, FOX, 24, Talent, News,
If, like me, you were a fan of Dennis Haysbert’s portrayal of President David Palmer on 24, you were most likely outraged when he was assassinated at the start of last season. There is some good news for fans of the Palmer family, however: next season, it looks like President Palmer will ride again.
Just not the way you think. Instead, David Palmer’s brother, Wayne (D.B. Woodside) will be taking over the Oval Office after the eviction of evil President Charles Logan (Gregory Itzin). Along with Woodside, Regina King will be joining the cast full-time. She will play Palmer sister Angela, who is an advocacy attorney.
I now fear for Wayne Palmer’s life; I like his character, and almost everyone I like on that show (RIP Palmer and Tony Almeida) gets killed, while Kim Bauer continues to live on to see another day. There’s no justice in the 24-verse, I tell ya. 24 returns to Fox in January to wreak more havoc upon beloved characters.

Rescue Me Picked Up for a Fourth Season
Posted by Christina Furtado Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Cable, FX, Renewals,
FX has recently announced that the controversial Denis Leary drama Rescue Me has been picked up for a fourth season, which is likely to air in the Spring of 2007. The show has been doing well in the ratings, enjoying about a 10 percent boost from last season’s numbers. I’m sure that Denis Leary’s recent Emmy nomination doesn’t hurt, either. I guess all the talk about the rape that apparently wasn’t hasn’t kept people away from the show—quite the reverse, in fact. According to FX President John Landgraf, Leary’s character, Tommy Gavin, will get what’s coming to him as this season goes on. Rescue Me airs in all its politically incorrect glory on Tuesday nights at 10 on FX.

Dave Navarro and Carmen Electra Part (Before Death)
Posted by Abby Rose Dalto Categories: Music, Reality, Cable, Rock Star, Rumors,
Apparently being on a reality show with your spouse is bad for the relationship. Dave Navarro and Carmen Electra are following in the footsteps of Kathy Griffin, Nick Lachey & Jessica Simpson, and - most likely - Britney Spears and Kevin Federline.
The couple, who starred in MTV’s reality series Till Death Do Us Part: Carmen + Dave, have announced that they are “amicably separating”. Their publicists would not give any more specific information, but Navarro revealed earlier this year that the marriage was suffering due to their busy work schedules.
Electra is most famous for her role on the hit show Baywatch and has recently appeared in films Date Movie and Scary Movie 4. Navarro, former member of Janes Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers, currently stars on the reality show Rockstar: Supernova.
Both have been married before although Electra’s first wedding is undoubtedly more famous. She wed Dennis Rodman in 1998, only to have the marriage annulled after nine days.

Bravo Renews Real Housewives of Orange County
Posted by Abby Rose Dalto Categories: Bravo, Desperate Housewives, Ratings, Renewals,
Bravo has decided to renew The Real Housewives of Orange County for a second season, set to premiere in 2006. The reality show focuses on the day-to-day lives of a group of wealthy Southern Californian women, in what has been called a real-life “Desperate Housewives” (or as I like to think of it, “Laguna Beach” for grownups).
Although the show was not an overwhelming ratings topper, it was relatively successful for Bravo, as a basic cable network. Oddly enough the median age of viewers was 34 (meaning that half of the show’s viewers were over 34, and half were under 34). That makes it Bravo’s “youngest” show of the schedule, which is a big deal considering it is about housewives.
Hopefully the second season will have the same success, despite a change in producers. Instead of Kaufman Films and Dunlop Entertainment - headed by creator Scott Dunlop - this season will be produced by Evolution Film & Tape.
The second season will focus on the original women - in addition to some new faces - as it picks up where the first season ended.
